CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD RETTING
Temperature, degrees, days, drying, the plant's growing conditions, wind and weather...There are so many parameters to deal with, and everything seems to be individual! Mentor lives in another part of the country so we literally have long-distance communication. I love "hands on" communication. Retting is experience, and I try to build that up. In this film I show what is supposed to be the CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD RETTING. Remember that the entire root should be under water, stir the water occasionally, and add a little fresh water now and then if you root in a tub or pool.
If you who see this have other experiences or tips and advice, I would really, really, really like to hear from you! (Unfortunately, the film is not translated.)
There should be a "swishing" sound when you squeeze the entire bundle.
If you bend and break a stalk, there should be no snapping sound, and the stalk should open into several parts.
You should be able to pull the fiber from bottom to top.
It is when the water is foamy and brown that the weeding is really working.
